Gears, Yet Again for PowerPoint! (Series 03)

Delete Shapes from an Existing SmartArt Graphic
After inserting a SmartArt graphic within PowerPoint (or converting some bulleted text to SmartArt), you can easily
add more shapes to your SmartArt graphics with just a click or two. You can even delete shapes from any existing
SmartArt graphic -- follow these steps to learn how you can delete shapes from your SmartArt graphics in PowerPoint 2013.
Change between SmartArt Graphic Layouts (Types)
After inserting a SmartArt graphic within PowerPoint or converting some bulleted text to SmartArt, you might want to change
the layout of the SmartArt. You can choose from various SmartArt graphics variations available within PowerPoint 2013. In
this tutorial we'll show you how to change any existing SmartArt graphic to any other layout (type).
Change Colors for a SmartArt Graphic
Although the default colors of an inserted SmartArt graphic may works the best, you may also want to change
the colors of the shapes comprising the SmartArt graphic. You change the colors of everything within the
SmartArt graphic at one go or change colors of individual shapes within the SmartArt graphic. Follow these
steps to learn how you can change colors of your SmartArt graphic in PowerPoint 2013.
Changing Fill, Line, and Effects for Shapes within SmartArt
After inserting a SmartArt graphic in your slide, you can change the color for the entire SmartArt graphic -- this applies
new colors to the entire SmartArt graphic including the various shapes it contains. However there may be times when you
want one of the shapes to be colored differently -- in this tutorial we'll explore the fill, line, and effect options which
can be applied to individual shapes within a SmartArt graphic in PowerPoint 2013.
Apply SmartArt Styles
When colors are changed for a SmartArt graphic, the only change that happens is to the fill colors of the the
individual shapes within the SmartArt. Other niceties such as outlines or effects are not altered. Rather than
individually add these attributes to your SmartArt, you can use the all-inclusive SmartArt Styles option to
overcome this limitation. In this tutorial, you will learn how to apply SmartArt Styles to the selected
SmartArt graphics in PowerPoint 2013. |
Learn PowerPoint 2013 for Windows: TransitionsDynamic Content Transitions
Dynamic Content transitions were first introduced in PowerPoint 2010 (these also work in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac).
When these transitions are applied to your slide, the actual transition occurs on all areas of the slide except
the backgrounds. This makes your content move independently on and off the screen. PowerPoint 2013 provides seven
different transition effects within the Dynamic Content category -- do experiment with these options for direction
and timing to create some great looking presentations. |
Learn PowerPoint 2013 for Windows: Custom Slide ShowsCreating Custom Slide Shows
Do you want to show only selected slides from your presentation to a particular audience? The answer is not to delete
the slides you do not want to show and thereafter saving as a copy. The answer is to create a custom slide show!
So what's a custom slide show? Think of your individual slides as songs -- then a custom slide show is a playlist of
those songs! Even better, since this is like a playlist, you do not have to delete the slides that are not used. And
there's more -- you can create any number of custom slide shows!
Playing Custom Shows
After you create custom slide shows, you will want to present them to your audience. Yes, you could access the Custom Shows dialog box, and then select a show and then choose to play it -- but that's a long process indeed. In this tutorial, we will show how you can access the same custom show more easily. And then we will also show you how you can set any custom show as the default -- this means that when you actually play your presentation in Slide Show view, only the slides within the custom show you select will be shown! |
Learn PowerPoint 2013 for Windows: ShapesChange a Diagonal Line to a Horizontal / Vertical Line
In PowerPoint 2013, you rotate shapes using the white rotation handle that appears when you select a shape.
However, have you ever noticed that the open line shape in PowerPoint doesn't show a white rotation handle?
Now, if you want to rotate any diagonal line to make it either a perfect horizontal, or vertical line,
how would you do that?
Finding Length of a Diagonal Line
Sometimes, when you draw a line in PowerPoint that is slanted or sloped, you may thereafter want to know the
length of your line. Believe it or not, there is no option to do this within the program. Unless you go and
revisit your school geometry class! |
